Pinnacle Mazda to Support Autism Speaks in Honor of Brett Smrz

In honor of Brett Smrz, a professional driver of the #29 Autism Speaks / Team MER Mazda MX-5 in the Sirius Satellite Radio Mazda MX-5 Championship, Pinnacle Mazda will have a raffle to raise money for Autism Speaks, an organization with an advocacy to raise awareness and fund research pertaining to Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), a complex brain disorder that affects 1 out of 150 people. The young driver recently lost his left leg below the knee because of intensive trauma in a sports accident.
Neil Bryant, the Parts Manager at Pinnacle Mazda, said that they have wanted to do something that would show support for Brett and the MER team while the driver works his way back to the race car where he belongs. The manager added that they decided to donate a custom office chair as one of the prizes to the fundraiser and forward the proceeds to Autism Speaks on behalf of Brett. The chair is from Autoart, maker of auto accessories and detailed models like the limited edition 1/18th scale model of the Mazda 787b ‘91 Lemans winner. With coil over shock absorbers, the chair is a stylized race shell mounted on frame.
Bryant continued that it is the ultimate race fan’s chair which is valued at more than $500.00 and they will ship it to the winner.
With tickets costing $10 each, the draw will be held after the race in August 4 at Pacific Raceway, the final Spec Miata Championship series. Participants in the race will all be given one entry each and have the chance to buy more at $5 each in an effort to give back to competitors. The first place winner will also get 5 more tickets; the second will get 3 more; and the third will get 1 more. This is so in order to push the participation of local racers. After the 1st prize, there will also be other prizes to be awarded to all ticket holders. As more of the prize is sorted out, there will be an update. The second place draw winner will receive a 1/18 scale model of the X-Men RX8 and more.
According to Bryant, they wanted to wanted to do something fun for all the participants in the raffle as well as the Spec Miata Racers. In pre-season analysis, experts predicted that the championship title is between Kimi, Fernando and Felipe. Lewis is a newbie, and they thought he needed more time to adapt in the harshest and most prestige competition in sport. Lewis has proved how fast he can get acquainted with the race. With 3 finishes in top three, he only needs more races in order to have his first win ever.
As usual, Fernando performs steadily to prove why he is the reign champion of F1. Heir Apparent: The Ferrari 360 Modena
At the turn of the century, the quiet little town of Modena was going about its business in the southern Po Valley in Italy. It was like any other town, with busy shops and hard working parents, and the streets were filled with children, who once in a while marveled at the machines that would occasionally rumble by on stiff rubber wheels. Three of those boys would go on to create legendary automotive companies that would bear their names – Maserati, Lamborghini and a young man named Enzo Ferrari. Today Modena is home of factories for automotive legends like Bugatti, De Tomaso, Lamborghini and, of course, Ferrari, thus earning it the reputation as the capital of engines.
Now, nearly one hundred years later, the little town has another distinction by virtue of its name – the 360 Modena, the first production car from Ferrari to be made entirely of aluminum. The line of small, two-seat sports cars went into production in 1999, and is modeled after its predecessor, the legendary F355, and serves as a replacement for the classic small-body Testerossa models, long the flagship of the brand. The 360 Modena is longer, taller, and with a wider wheel base than its ancestors, yet is slimmer in width, lending it less radical yet more muscular and aerodynamic lines.
Like any new Ferrari based on earlier designs, the Modena 360 is chock full of performance enhancements and technical innovations that result in zero-to-100 miles per hour accelleration in 10.2 seconds, markedly slower than the 6.6 seconds of it’s muscular cousin, the Enzo Ferrari supercar, but still quick enough to snap a neck that isn’t paying attention.
The convertible version of the Modena is the 360 Spider, perhaps better known from its frequency in movies, but other than poundage is the exact same car. A stripped-down and performance-juiced version of the Modena exists in the form of the Challenge Stradale, sans leather and ornamentation.
As with all Ferraris, the 360 Modena delivers speed, distinctive styling and the prestige of that little yellow emblem, all in a two-seater that proudly promises to propel the Ferrari legacy into the distant future.

The instructors have put in many championship wins on race tracks around the world. They are experienced in sharing their skills in a step-by-step manner; with early instruction providing vital tools upon which more advanced techniques will be built.
The Ferrari Driving Experience lasts for two and a half days, and begins with a champagne reception and dinner the evening before classes begin. Time is spent in both the classroom and on the track, although most of the time is spent behind the wheel. Classes cover such topics as vehicle dynamics and driving line. Track time includes introducing skills like how to handle the car in wet and dry conditions, including controlled skids, braking, and acceleration, and building on lapping techniques, beginning with sectional, and moving up to short track and eventually full track circuits.
Students may not drive their own Ferraris, for insurance reasons, but instead are provided with twelve new Ferrari F430 ‘s for their use during the Experience. The fee for sumptuous room, board and instruction is $8,200 in US dollars. There is a waiting list for these special instructional events, so register early if possible.
If you would like to receive all of the superior instruction of the Experience but be able to participate in your own Ferrari, then you might enjoy Ferrari Driving Clinics. Priced at $1350 US, these clinics are held on Ferrari Challenge race weekends, and you get to drive your car on the track, under the helpful eye of your instructor. Owning A Ferrari - Is It Worth It?

Driving a Ferrari has always been a dream of mine. I am unfortunate that I remember Danny Wild driving his red Ferrari around Europe in the Persuaders on TV back in the early 70s. But then when you do get to drive one, you realise that they are only designed to be driven one way, and that’s fast.
But of course with speed limit, kids, other drivers on the road you will find that only a very small time can be dedicate to driving a Ferrari as it should be. In fact much of the driving you would do is totally unsuitable for a Ferrari. OK I will be honest with you, I don’t own a Ferrari but I have driven one. I hired a car and drove it around a racetrack as it was designed to do, which a qualified instructor of course. This has totally changed my perception of why people must own a Ferrari.
I cannot now see any reason to own one at all, except as a status symbol. Nothing comes close to driving this super car around at 150mph, so much legal fun it’s amazing, but driving it at 30mph just seems so much of a hassle. Then my driving instructor came up with some facts. He said add up the cost of buying your Ferrari then add on the insurance, add on your yearly running costs in including servicing, tyres etc.
Then he said calculate how many hours you would actually get to drive your car. Then calculate how many hours you would drive the car as it should be driven. In both cases you get a ridiculously high hourly rate to own a car. So much so that to hire one like I did with professional instruction becomes a bargain.
So I have readjusted my dream, I will stick with my comfortable road car but when I fancy, to the racetrack I will go in the full knowledge I am getting a better deal than the rich and famous. There are many track deals around the UK stating from £99 why not give a try and see if your dream changes.

The enzo chassis is built of carbon fibre and aluminium sandwich panels.Torsion ridigity was proven to be higher than it was targeted.Also chassis weight is decreased considerably to 92 kg. Compared to the previous composite model of F50 which was 102 kg. The new Ferrari Enzo was given an independent rear and front suspension with double wish bones and geometries and adaptive set up. Amazon.comIt begins with a solemn funeral…for a car. By the end of Chris Paine's lively and informative documentary, the idea doesn't seem quite so strange. As narrator Martin Sheen notes, "They were quiet and fast, produced no exhaust and ran without gasoline." Paine proceeds to show how this unique vehicle came into being and why General Motors ended up reclaiming its once-prized creation less than a decade later. He begins 100 years ago with the original electric car. By the 1920s, the internal-combustion engine had rendered it obsolete. By the 1980s, however, car companies started exploring alternative energy sources, like solar power. This, in turn, led to the late, great battery-powered EV1. Throughout, Paine deftly translates hard science and complex politics, such as California's Zero-Emission Vehicle Mandate, into lay person's terms (director Alex Gibney, Oscar-nominated for Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room, served as consulting producer). And everyone gets the chance to have their say: engineers, politicians, protesters, and petroleum spokespeople--even celebrity drivers, like Peter Horton, Alexandra Paul, and a wild man beard-sporting Mel Gibson. But the most persuasive participant is former Saturn employee Chelsea Sexton. Promoting the benefits of the EV1 was more than a job to her, and she continues to lobby for more environmentally friendly options. Sexton provides the small ray of hope Paine's film so desperately needs. Who Killed the Electric Car? is, otherwise, a tremendously sobering experience. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

Writer/Director Chris Paine Blogs About Who Killed the Electric Car When Who Killed the Electric Car premiered at the Sundance Film Festival (on the same weekend as An Inconvenient Truth), we wondered whether movie goers were ready for a new kind of 'action film'. Fortunately people jumped onboard and this seems even more true today. We put this DVD together after the release of the film to include a dozen short scenes we couldn't quite fit into our story. My favorite is one with Stan and Iris Ovshinsky who developed the revolutionary battery technology that powered GM's electric car (and today's Prius). These two brilliant octogenarians took our small camera crew on a Willy Wonka style tour of their inventions including the world's largest thin film solar cell factory. As we stood under a football field size machine in Troy Michigan, I blustered "Is solar power back?" Stan exclaimed " What?! Solar never went away... What was back was backward thinking!" And as his machine cranked out miles of solar cells above us, we knew he was right. I'm especially glad that the optimistic last scene of Who Killed the Electric Car has proven that we weren't just wishful thinkers when we finished our edit. The clips feature the first glimpse of the ultra fast Tesla electric sports prototype as well the Zenn neighborhood electric vehicle. Both cars are starting to roll off production lines today. And while the State of California (and some car companies) are still gambling on hydrogen fuel cells, plug-in cars are proving to be more environmentally efficient and popular. Early adopters deserve a lot of the credit. Oil companies and the internal combustion engine monopoly may have "killed" thousands of electric cars (EVs) in the 1990s, but EVs are coming back.
